Being an Apple Authorised Service Provider iStore is the best place to get your iPad repaired. iStore uses Apple provided diagnostic tools and procedures to ensure we treat your device as Apple intended.

Getting your iPad Fixed

Bring your iPad in to iStore where it will be booked in to our service department to be assessed by one of our service technicians. Once a fault has been discovered we will contact you with a quote.

If your device is covered under warranty we will mail-in your device to Apple where it will be approved for replacement. Once your replacement iPad has arrived at our location we will contact you to advise that your iPad is ready for collection.

Due to Apple's repair policy your device will need to remain in our service department for the duration of the repair.

Diagnostic fees and pricing

If your device is less than a year old, and the issue covered by Apple's Limited Warranty the service will be free of charge. If your unit was purchased in New Zealand and is less than 24 months old it may be covered under Apple's variable warranty.

For all iPad repairs – in or out of warranty – there is a $39 assessment fee that is payable if a service or replacement is not undertaken by iStore. If you accept a quote for repair or your repair is covered by warranty, iStore will not charge the assessment fee.

How long will it take?

We aim for a service turn around time of 3 - 5 working days for iPad hardware repairs, however this may vary depending on the current work load of the service department.1

Battery Service

If your iPad is suffering from battery life issues iStore can diagnose the issue. If we confirm a failed or consumed battery we can order a replacement iPad from Apple for a discounted service fee.

Before you bring in your device

Perform a backup

Before bringing in your iPad to be serviced please ensure you have done all appropriate backups of your data. iStore will have to erase your device to help diagnose and confirm an issue.

In some situations iStore can provide data backup and restore during the troubleshooting stage, however this is not covered by Apple Warranty and will incur a service charge. Unfortunately iStore is unable to perform data recovery on iOS devices.

Remove Find my iPad

Before we can service iPad, Apple require us to turn off the security feature known as 'Find my iPad'. This can be turned off via the iPad's iCloud settings.

Before we book the device in for service our staff will ask you remove 'Find my iPad' with your Apple ID password.

iOS Repair

Unfortunately software issues are not covered by Apple's warranty. Thankfully iStore technicians are highly skilled in diagnosing and fixing issues with iOS. We will endeavour to repair your issues as quickly as possible and if the situation calls for it, we can restore your device to factory settings.

Restoring your device will result in data loss however we will walk you through backup and recovery options if a restore is required.

iOS Upgrade

Bring your device in to iStore so we can upgrade it to the latest version of its respective Operating System.

iPad Accessories

If your iPad's accessory – such as a USB-C to USB-C Cable or Power Adapter – is not working as expected you can get it serviced through iStore. In order for iStore to facilitate a repair or replacement of an iPad accessory we need to run a quick diagnostic on the iPad you use the accessory with. This takes a few minutes while we book in your faulty item.2

Just like with iPad repairs your accessory will need to remain in our service department for the duration of the repair however you may take your iPad away with you.

Apple Pencil Service

If your Apple Pencil is suffering from issues you can bring it into iStore for service. If your Apple Pencil was purchased in New Zealand and is less than 24 months old it may be covered under Apple's variable warranty.

Because the Apple Pencil doesn't ship with iPad we will use the serial number from the Apple Pencil to confirm its warranty status. As it is a stand alone product you may need to provide iStore with a proof of purchase in order for us to service your Apple Pencil.

Just like with iPad repairs your accessory will need to remain in our service department for the duration of the repair however you may take your iPad away with you.

Smart Keyboard Service

If your iPad Pro Smart Keyboard is suffering from issues you can bring it into iStore for service. Because the iPad Pro Smart Keyboard doesn't ship with the iPad we will use the serial number from the Smart keyboard to confirm its warranty status. If we are unable to read the serial number you will need to provide iStore with a proof of purchase or the original product packaging containing the serial number.

iStore will need to run a diagnostic on the iPad that the Smart Keyboard is used however you may take your iPad away with you while we order your replacement smart keyboard. Your Smart Keyboard will need to remain in iStore's possession throughout the service.

Data Migrations

If you are upgrading from an old iPad, we can transfer the data from your old device to your new device. If you have purchased the iPad from another retailer we can migrate the data for a migration fee.

Insurance Assessments

If your iPad has suffered liquid damage or impact damage from an unfortunate mishap – or if your device has been lost or stolen – iStore can provide an insurance assessment and send the report directly to your insurance company. Once approved we can service or replace your device and have you up and running again as soon as possible.

An insurance assessment requires a valid claim number and contact email address. We also require an insurance assessment fee to be paid up front, in most cases this will be reimbursed by your insurance company

Send in your iPad

If you cannot physically get to our store, you can mail in your items to be assessed and repaired. Please print and complete both the Mail-In Service Form and the Terms of Service pages that can be downloaded via the link below. Please include them when sending your item(s) to us.

Please make sure you have backed up your device before sending it in and followed any service instructions provided with the Mail-in documentation. If you are unsure of anything please contact iStore.

Repair Extension Programs
Bellow is a list of currently active repair or exchange service programs available for the iPad.

iPad Air (3rd Gen) Service Program for Blank Screen Issue

Apple has determined that, under certain circumstances, the screen on a limited number of iPad Air (3rd generation) devices may go blank permanently. A brief flicker or flash may appear before the screen goes blank. please contact iStore with your serial number to see if your device can be serviced free of charge.


Coverage Period

This repair program covers eligible iPad Air models for up to two years from purchase date.

Smart Keyboard Repair Program

Apple has determined that some Smart Keyboard devices may experience functional issues during use. The service policy covers affected Smart Keyboards for 3 years after the first retail sale of the device. Affected models are the Apple Smart Keyboard for iPad Pro 9.7-inch iPad Pro (Early 2016) and Smart Keyboard for 12.9-inch iPad Pro (Late 2015). In order for iStore to service keyboards under the repair program you must provide a proof of purchase showing the serial number or the keyboard’s retail box.


Coverage Period

This repair program covers eligible iPad Pro Smart Keyboards for up to three years from purchase date.

Because of this it may not be logistically possible for iStore to service an accessory via the Mail-in process.
